Richard Sprott, Anna Randall, Carlos Morales, and Cal Domingue lead a workshop to practice skills when someone close to you is feeling suicidal. The workshop begins with a general overview of suicidality in the kink communities, based on the 2016 Kink Health Survey and other recent research. What to do, what to say, and practice saying it is the core of the workshop. We will also discuss grief after the loss of someone to suicide, which is a complicated grief to go through.
There has been a clear increase in suicidal thoughts and behavior across many populations in the United States. But the kink community remains much more affected, due to minority stress and sexual shame. While playing is life-affirming, we can do more to protect and support each other. Please come and pick up some skills, and practice the ones you already have.
