San Francisco Leathermen's Discussion Group

LDG on MSNBC!

Erik Will

A message from the chairman

In case you missed it on MSNBC's The Week with Joshua Jackson, I had the distinct opportunity to share my thoughts about the Kink at Pride debate in a live, nationwide interview with host Joshua Jackson - no stranger to the Bay Area Leather/Kink community. He started off with a bold admission of his direct knowledge of kink and Leathermen's Discussion Group and his participation in one of our programs, years ago. A brave step for a network news anchor and general visibility.

WATCH LDG ON MSNBC

We had hoped to discuss SF LDG's YouTube page takedown, our immediate response and eventual reinstatement and also the Leather Cultural District, but Margaret Cho ate into my airtime in the previous segment. 😉

I got a little tongue-tied but wanted to convey additional thoughts on this 'debate' about Kink at Pride, mainly that I believe that these types of dramas are introduced to us by right-wing trolls who want to create controversies where none/few exist. Why? To distract us. To distract us from the hundreds of anti LGBT and anti Trans bills that have been introduced or passed in the last year. We must find commonality in our broad subsets that define LGBTQI culture.

Finally, Joshua mentioned a new term coined in the Rolling Stone article: Puriteens! I hadn't heard that word prior and I hope to hell I never hear it again.

I hope I represented our community adequately and that the viewers could sense the overwhelming amount of pride speaking to the nation about who we are, our history and what we're about as an organization.

In solidarity,

Al Rahm Lujan - Chairman
